Exciting plans in progress

Be part of an inspiring community archive project by Remembering The Past, capturing a snapshot of life in North Shields in 2025. We'll interview local residents to record their stories and memories related to the town, culminating in an exhibition in the Autumn.

In North Shields Voices, we will interview a diverse selection of North Shields residents about their life in the town to create an historic record of 2025. We hope to explore unique relationships with North Shields, celebrate its rich history, and share thoughts on its future. In the Autumn, photographic portraits of some of the interviewees will be exhibited with an accompanying sound installation created from their words. After the project, all the interviews and images collected will be placed in our community archive and shared on our website.

Remembering the Past is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to collecting and managing a digital archive of sound recordings and images that reflect every aspect of local life in North Tyneside since the early 1900s. We began in 1997 and have built one of the longest-running and most diverse community history archives in the country. By sharing memories and history with diverse generations and groups, we aim to contribute to stronger, more connected communities in and around North Tyneside.

If you are interested in volunteering on the project, or have a story to share about your life in North Shields, please get in touch!
