Deeds, Words and Danger is a theatre heritage project inspired by suffragette Norah Balls, empowering women and girls in North Shields through drama and storytelling. Led by Workie Ticket Theatre, it celebrates local herstories, explores contemporary issues and fosters community pride.
Drama and Storytelling Workshops: Participants will collaborate to explore local herstories and create original characters and monologues.
Collaborative Performance Development: A local writer and actors will help transform workshop ideas into a final performance, showcasing the stories and themes developed.
Legacy and Community Engagement: Stories and performances will be archived locally, ensuring they remain accessible.
Parliament once called her a “dangerous woman” – and we are HERE for it.
Join us in celebrating the fierce legacy of North Shields suffragette Norah Balls in our very special theatre heritage project.
As part of the North Shields 800 celebrations, we’re the only woman-led organisation bringing her story to life.
What we’re doing:
🎪 Community workshops, creating original characters and monologues
🏫 Working with local schools and women’s groups
🎨 Placard-making, drama, and storytelling sessions
🎭 Collaborative performance for International Women’s Day 2026
We’re all about empowering women and girls in our community, exploring issues that affect society today, and honouring the herstories that shaped our town and its people.
And what an amazing figurehead to centre this project around: a community activist, magistrate, local councillor, Northumberland Girl Guides co-founder, WWII air raid warden, and Justice of the Peace committed to improving the lives of girls, women, and children.
Wanna get involved? Join our workshops, help create characters, take part in performances. From survivors to students, placard-makers to performers – there’s a place for everyone.
Huge thanks to Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players for making this possible. 🙏
